Hyundai Excel Racing FAQs

What is the Supashock Excel Control Suspension Package for Hyundai Excel?

In racing, control items are parts that are regulated and controlled by the motorsport body responsible for the category, and associated suppliers. Control items encourage competition based on driver skill and enable the motorsport body to keep costs down for drivers and teams.

Control items are all designed and manufactured to the same specifications and are tamper-proof sealed to prevent unsanctioned modifications to the part.

The Supashock Excel Control Suspension package includes 2x front struts and 2x rear struts for Hyundai Excel vehicles that compete in the Circuit Excel Racing Australia series.

The supplier (Supashock), is the only entity authorised to remove any seals and in any way disassemble the Supashock Excel Control Suspension struts.

I need to lodge a warranty claim for my Supashock Excel Control Suspension package, what is the process?

If you believe your Control Suspension needs to be returned under warranty, Supashock takes this seriously and is happy to inspect your dampers to rectify possible issues.

Supashock is unable to accurately track events and the lifecycle of dampers across the Australian Excel Racing Series. Hence, the warranty offered for the Hyundai Excel Control Suspension Package only applies to factory defects and is valid for 30 days from date of dispatch. Warranty will not be valid after any form of track or race use. Supashock does however allow a 3 month period from date of purchase, to warrant gassing related performance issues.

As the Supashock Excel Control Suspension package is sold solely as a racing product, the warranty offered only applies to factory defects and is valid for 30 days from date of dispatch. Warranty will not be valid after any form of track or race use.

We encourage customers to rule out all possibilities of abnormal noises or behavior before returning dampers. You will find a pre-return checklist and diagnosis advice below. Dampers returned claiming for warranty that require no re-working will incur a minimum cost of $150.00 + GST per damper.

Pre-return Checklist & Diagnosis Advice:

Here are some tips to help rule out abnormalities that may be related to lack of service/cleaning, improper installation, or vehicle related issues:

  • Torque up all fasteners on the damper, and suspension components/running gear.
  • Ensure all bushes on suspension components are good condition, examples would include control arms and sway bars.
  • Clean dampers after each racing day or weekend:
    • Shaft: Water and clean cloth to remove any excess dirt, mud or grease build up.
    • Strut foot & threads: Soapy water and brush.
    • Spring, perches and collars: Soapy water and brush.
    • Top bearing: PTFE based dry lubricant spray & compressed air.
    • After a thorough cleaning, you may choose to spray the shaft and strut foot with WD40, then wipe the excess with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Excess assembly grease around shaft seal: Please note the difference between grease and damper oil. Grease will settle around the shaft seal and can be wiped off. Damper oil is thin and if seals are leaking, will run on the strut foot with consistent use.
  • Spring creaking: Springs are seated on self-lubricating polymer bearings. If you find the springs are making undesirable noise as they compress, you can assist the lubrication by cleaning the bearings and thinly layering Moly grease above and below the spring. To gain access for applying lubrication, simply loosen the locking collar and spring seat, and wind them down the strut foot until the spring is no longer captive.
  • You can’t achieve the desired suspension set-up: The geometry of the Supashock Control Suspension has been set up on a vehicle with a straight chassis. If you are unable to achieve desired corner weights or have insufficient/excess camber, you may need to have your vehicle inspected by a professional to ensure all chassis and suspension componentry are straight.
