The GR Yaris is a high-performance hatchback that was first introduced in 2020 and is based on the Yaris subcompact car, but with significant upgrades to the engine, chassis, and other components.
It features a turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 257 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the most powerful three-cylinder engines in production. It is available with a six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive, which helps to provide exceptional handling and traction in a variety of driving conditions.
Its strong performance and handling is also attributable to its lightweight and highly rigid body, a sport-tuned suspension, and upgraded brakes. It has a distinctive and aggressive appearance, with a wide stance, flared fenders, and a prominent rear wing, which are all functional components that help to improve aerodynamics and stability at high speeds.
Supashock’s GR Yaris coilovers are designed to improve your Yaris’ handling performance and vehicle dynamics.
What stock suspension does the Toyota GR Yaris XP210 come with (and why is it worth switching out)?
The Toyota GR Yaris XP210 comes with a sport-tuned suspension system from the factory, which includes MacPherson struts up front and a double-wishbone setup at the rear. However, many enthusiasts may want to switch out the stock suspension components to improve the car's handling and performance even further.
Some of the reasons why it's worth switching out the stock suspension on the Toyota GR Yaris XP210 include:
- Upgrading to aftermarket suspension components, such as coilovers or sway bars, can significantly improve the car's handling characteristics. This can result in more precise cornering and better overall performance on the track and in spirited driving.
- Aftermarket suspension components often allow for adjustable ride height, which can be beneficial for both performance and aesthetic purposes. Lowering the car's ride height can improve handling by lowering its center of gravity, while also giving the car a more aggressive stance.
- Many aftermarket coilovers come with adjustable damping settings, allowing the driver to tailor the suspension to their driving style and preferences. This can result in a more comfortable ride on the street or a more responsive setup on the track.
INVERTED MONOTUBE COILOVER DESIGN
Supashock strongly recommends selecting the Inverted Monotube Coilover option for your vehicle where available, for several reasons:
- The lateral force experienced by the damper is exerted on the outer cylinder, rather than the damper shaft, piston, and their seals. The result is greater overall rigidity, resistance to bending and less susceptibility to damage than standard design coilovers.
- Monotube configuration of the inverted coilover offers greater piston area, oil capacity and separation of oil and gas. This configuration offers consistent and tuneable damping in comparison to a twin-tube damper design.
- Greater surface area and oil volume allows for better thermal dissipation (cooling).
STANDARD MONOTUBE COILOVER DESIGN
Supashock’s Standard Monotube Coilover design is far superior to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) designs. The monotube configuration offers greater piston area, oil capacity and separation of oil and gas, giving you greater performance, strength, cooling and adjustability. Supashock coilovers offer consistent and tunable damping compared to a twin-tube damper commonly found in OEM designs.
FEATURES AND SPECIFICATIONS
- Monotube Coilover Design.
- 30 clicks of adjustable damping (1-way), adjusts compression and rebound simultaneously.
- Camber adjustable (where applicable) via camber plate or slotted strut foot.
- Full-length height adjustable for a raised or lowered stance.
- Upper mounts are pillow ball or OEM configuration, dependent on vehicle model.
- Forged aluminium, adjustable spring seat and locking collar.
- Fully serviceable/rebuildable.
- 55mm steel shock body on inverted coilover designs.
- 'Wave' alloy steel thrust washer on inverted coilover designs.
- Ready to install.
Please note:
- Pillow ball upper mounts do add greater road feel for increased performance, handling and accuracy but can result in torsional spring noise occasionally. There is no detriment to the function or safety of coilovers. Returns under warranty for noises associated with the pillow ball upper mounts will not be considered. For investigative work related to coilover noise, workshop rates will apply if products are found to have no issues.
- In some vehicle set-ups, the spring will be separate from the damper. This design will sometimes be respected, and then you will receive a damper and spring separately. Height will generally be changed via a supplied adjustable spring seat.
- Photos shown are inverted monotube design front and rear coilovers. Actual product will vary depending on vehicle model and coilover configuration chosen.
FAQs About GR Yaris coilovers
What are GR Yaris coilovers, and how are they different from traditional suspension systems?
The GR Yaris is a performance-oriented variant of the Toyota Yaris, and coilovers are designed to provide improved handling and adjustability over the stock suspension system.
Coilovers are a type of suspension system that replaces the stock springs and shocks with adjustable units that allow for greater customisation of the car's handling characteristics. The GR Yaris coilovers are specifically designed for this car and its unique suspension geometry, and they can provide improved handling, cornering ability, and traction in a variety of driving conditions.
What benefits can I expect from installing GR Yaris coilovers on my car?
Some benefits of installing GR Yaris coilovers include improved handling and performance, more precise and customisable suspension adjustments, and better stability at high speeds or during hard cornering. Additionally, aftermarket coilovers can provide a lowered ride height, which can improve the car's appearance and aerodynamics.
Can GR Yaris coilovers be adjusted to suit different driving conditions or styles?
GR Yaris coilovers can be adjusted to suit different driving conditions or styles, such as daily driving, street racing, or track use. The adjustability can allow for changes in spring rates, damping, and ride height to better suit the driving style and conditions.
How long does it take to install GR Yaris coilovers, and can I do it myself?
Installation time for GR Yaris coilovers can vary depending on the specific kit, but it generally takes a few hours. While it is possible to install the coilovers yourself, it is recommended to have a professional mechanic perform the installation to ensure that everything is properly installed and adjusted.
What factors should I consider when choosing GR Yaris coilovers for my car?
When choosing GR Yaris coilovers, factors to consider include your specific driving needs, budget, and quality of the suspension components. It is important to choose a reputable brand with a good track record for quality and reliability.
Are GR Yaris coilovers suitable for daily driving, or are they primarily designed for racing and track use?
GR Yaris coilovers are suitable for daily driving, and are designed for performance and racing use.
Will installing GR Yaris coilovers void my car's warranty?
It is important to note that installing aftermarket suspension components can void your car's warranty, so it is recommended to check with your dealer before making any modifications.
What kind of maintenance is required for GR Yaris coilovers, and how often should I have them inspected?
Maintenance for GR Yaris coilovers can vary depending on the specific kit, but regular inspections and adjustments are recommended to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
